I read this book because of the customer reviews and I enjoy reading true crime. Rathbon just gave me the creeps. Here was a guy that had no idea when a woman was not interested. He seemed to pursue women relentlessly to the point of obsession. The accusations of sexual assult by other women made it very easy to believe that he just had no self control. I have no doubt he is lying about the death being an accident, and feel he deserved the death penalty. It's not fair he still gets to wake up every morning. What a horrible end to a life. I can't imagine the fear and pain that young woman felt in her final minutes alive. The guy is just a disgusting animal.A good read if you like true crime. Just be prepared to be a little creeped out by this guy.

I'm not much of a true-crime reader these days but this book, like other TC books, brings real people into horrible and surreal settings, circumstances and actions. This is a sad story.
Hermosa Beach, with it's small-townish feel although in sprawling and over-developed Southern California, HB is cuddled along the South Bay. A small, innocuous community of people who knew each other. A laid-back slow pace with clean air, beaches, volleyball and good-looks.
Linda Sobek was a person who worked hard at her job, modeling. She took assignments carefully. Getting good work before and after being a "Raidereutte." She went to the dried lake-bed desert area of El Mirage to do a Lexus shoot with a locally renown and eccentric photographer who had a frightening but well-concealed past. An eye for an eye is what he deserves. Read to find out the rest.
A good true crime book about a sad story.
I had this book on my TBR pile for a long time. It was after reading a review here, that I decided to read the book.
Linda Sobek was a beautiful young model who wanted nothing more then to become famous. Once an LA Raider cheerleader, Linda had recently gotten a bit part on "Married With Children" so when she receives a call from known photographer Charles Rathbun, off she goes to a photo shoot in a very secluded area. When her family and friends can't reach her the search is on for the beauty and to everyone's horror, Linda is found dead. Rathbun finally admits his hand in her death but claims it was an accident that happened during rough sex. The author does a great job of keeping the reader on edge and putting the story together so well that it's hard to put the book down. I don't want to give anything away because there are some twist and turns to this story. I will say that reading how Ms. Sobek died is truly horrifying and Rathbun got off easy considering he's still alive.
I read this book for research for a writing project. It served its purpose, but little more. Clunky but oddly fascinating.
Avoid. Read Death of a Model instead.
You need to read this especially if you are a model. It tells how things can go wrong if the buddy system is not implemented. It took a models death to make changes.
Book was excellent. I've always seen the true crime story on tv. Being able to read about it was so much better. Just showed how crazy Linda's killer really was.
