The Keeper A Novel Stoney Ridge Seasons Volume 1 Suzanne Woods Fisher 9780800719876 Books

Excellent Story, well written that I could connect and relate with the characters. The storyline flowed nicely with each character, even with a little mystery of what some were up to, kept intrigue peaked. Julie was the oldest of the children, and was looking out for the fields, orchard, the garden as well as the roadside stand, and looking out for the younger ones, as her mother had passed away a year ago. Now she was also looking out for her father, who had suffered a heart attach, to his surprise along with everyone else. Amos, the father, in his fifties, fit, trim, healthy for the most part and a hard worker and quick to play with his young ones. He had a heart problem that took him out of the field and everywhere else, as his heart was slowly giving out and he needed a heart transplant, but thought that it was maybe his time to go too. Having went through some of the issues that were addressed in this story, it brought back a lot of what we went through and it was very uplifting and encouraging how this family
went through some very hard choices they had to make and to see how it effected each one. It's a story that you chuckle, cry and filled with compassion and encouragement. One of the best reads I thoroughly felt uplifted and enjoyed.

The Keeper A Novel Stoney Ridge Seasons Volume 1 Suzanne Woods Fisher 9780800719876 Books Reviews

The Keeper was more than fantastic! I don't know what to say. I stumbled onto this author Suzanne Wood Fisher in an ad. I looked up the three books in this series and bought the first one. I will buy the next two when done with this review. I don't like to tell about the story and ruin it for other readers. The storyline and all the characters are well developed. As I was reading this book my sister-in-law unexpectedly died of a bad heart so this really became a tear jerrker for me. The book is so full of Christian faith, love and understanding. It is a must read of all those who enjoy family love and for those who need to learn about family love. A book can teach you so much and this one teaches love, forgiviness, and strength in the Lord. Pease read and enjoy!
I've read a lot of Suzanne Woods Fisher's novels, but this one blew them all out of the water!
I liked the way the story was told from multiple viewpoints, and how that made us able to get to know a greater number of the characters. I think that helped me feel connected to them faster than I might have otherwise felt.
Though the characters were wonderful, what really brought the story up to that elusive 5 star rating from me was the way it portrayed the theme of sacrificial love. Without giving away any spoilers, I will just say that the connections drawn between our Saviour's sacrifice for us and things that happened in the story were poignant and powerful and had me in tears!
I liked all the characters in The Keeper, which is saying something, and the story kept my attention. About three-quarters through it started feeling a little preachy. It's not that what was said wasn't true or appropriate. It just didn't strike me as authentic. There was only one conversation where the preaching felt natural. The rest of the time I felt as if the author was speaking to me through her characters. She does a lot of head hopping, which is okay. I'm not strict on point-of-view writing, but I'm used to it, and there were times I was confused whose head we were supposed to be in.

At the back of the book were discussion questions asking how we felt about certain characters as the story progressed. I'll answer by saying I liked Roman a lot in the beginning, but not as much when he spoke as the author's mouthpiece and sounded more like a pastor than a beekeeper. I had an inkling who the man in the panama hat would turn out to be, but I dismissed it as highly improbable. Turns out I was right, and the ending was so ridiculously improbable, it bordered on a miracle. But perhaps you can get away with that in an Amish novel.

All-in-all I enjoyed reading this and will probably read more from this author.
You will fall totally in love with the Lapp family in this superlative Amish romance. The oldest Lapp child, Julia, struggles to take care of their family farm since her widower father, Amos, has been slowly dying of congestive heart failure. Her fiancé Paul has just postponed their wedding for the second time and she thinks she is still madly in love with him and wants desperately to get him back. And who should come to their community but Roman Troyer, the "Bee man," a drifter who goes from place to place hiring out his hives of rare brown bees to cross pollinate the agriculture in Amish communities. From past experiences, Julia has labeled the "Bee man" as uncommitted, rootless, and a shameless flirting Lady's man. Handsome, clever, and hard-working, Julia shows nothing but contempt for his rootless ways and this just attracts him all the more to her. Little does she know anything of his tragic past and the reason he has no home. However, "Rome" and Julia's father Amos have formed a close relationship based on mutual respect and trust. To muddy the picture even more, Fern arrives from Ohio into the Lapp family farm in Eastern Pennsylvania to act as housekeeper for the struggling Lapps. Fern is stern, outspoken and demanding of the Lapp children Julia, Menno, Sadie, and youngest "M.K." She also knows all about Roman Troyer and his well-kept secretive past. The author's development of the Lapp children is so warm-hearted, emotional and poignant that I found myself totally immersed in their struggles, relationships, and personal quirks. The youngest and cleverest Lapp child, Mary Kate, hatches a plot to make Paul jealous by putting Rome together with Julia, but will it backfire if the spark of romance is somehow hatched between the two? The story is told with intense drama, humor, and Godly wisdom. This reviewer has read dozens of Amish romances and, to this date, I proclaim The Keeper is the best one yet.
